Well, it's aeons since I blogged. I'm all excited about the music season this year. To know more about the concert schedule, hit this link - Concert Schedule(Courtesy:http://ramsabode.wordpress.com). Let's see what we've got new this season.

Apart from that, facebook's somehow eating my time, rather I'm letting it eat my time. I guess I need to get back to writing some serious stuff, not just stop with changing my status messages and "liking" stuff that's being posted.

Title : Shamelessly quoting Nash.

Been creating a lot of ruckus of late about my "wisdom" (ahem) teeth. Yes. The phase has come in my life, where I was advised to get it removed. All the W's crossed my mind. But this time I wasn't bestowed with much of a choice since the tooth was hurting apart from displaying its affection for my cheek walls.

The first step of the onerous regime was visiting the dentist.(Am sure you understand what I meant by ruckus). The classical steps followed, like getting the scans done. The best part was, I'd undergone the scans part of it (for a different problem, of course) a few years back and the recommendations provided freaked me out, which was to get the molars surgically removed. So you can guess what followed. An act of disappearance! :-) I vowed never to step into that place again. But I guess the teeth be"spoke" my destiny this time, and it all came back to me with a BIG BANG (On a side note, fascinated by the TV series :-D).

This time there was no eschewing because of the superiority exercised by the "wisdom" teeth on me. Acquiescence was the only word. :-( I decided to take the first brave?! step by fixing an appointment to get one of the tooth extracted.

After the wait, when it was my turn to be seated on the chair, I was a little tensed (that's putting it mildly). When I was been given a shot of local anesthetic, my dentist just said one word - this is going to hurt just a little. My head started reeling and I was reminded of Ogden Nash's poem "This is going to hurt just a little bit". I was restless. There were a lot of dentures and teeth models lying around. It looked like all of those were laughing at me. But when the process of extraction started, I didn't realize the start or the end of it. It was over in a jiffy. Pretty unbelievable! All it takes is less than 30 secs to "pull" out the "wisdom".

Well, its not over yet. There's one more round of extraction. The day will come soon when I'll be devoid of all the "wisdom" teeth. It's not too far. That will indicate the time for my next post.

Just a note of advice - Don't be callous towards this calcareous structure. There's no gain without pain!

I am terribly disturbed by whatever has been happening. What is the cause for all this? Daily life has become a battle. The number of offences committed everyday is exponentially increasing! But what compels one to perpetrate?
The least I can hope is that the word peace remains in one piece. Let that not be massacred too.

La Vie En Rose

Been wanting to write about a movie for quite sometime. Finally decided to. But, the unique aspect, (well, that's how I would like to christen it) is that, this is written in French! I thought my blog was a good arena to portray the little French that I've learnt! Without any disclaimers, here I narrate -

J'ai vu un fil qui s'appelle La Vie En Rose. Ce film est sorti en Février 2007. J'ai vu le bande-annonce du film à l'avance. Il était trés intéressant et j'ai decidé de le voir. Le genre est musical. L'actrice Marion Cotillard joue un rôle Édith Piaf , la chanteuse dans le film. Elle a gagné 'Le Premier Actrice' à l'Oscar.

L'Histoire du film est "La vie à Édith Piaf", et il présente la view de l'enfance à la mort. Toutes les chansons du film sont trop belle. Et mon chanson favorite est Non, regrette rien. La mise en scène est trés riche!

Les dialogues du film sont trés émouvants. J'ai pleuré finalement. Vous ne manquez pas ce film. À voir absolument!

December Season 2008

After a long hiatus... here I come. Well, this ain't one of my new year resolutions ;)

So, let me dive directly into the details about the concerts that I attended -

The first kutcheri that I attended this year was Shri.Sanjay Subramanyam @ Infosys Hall. I really liked the krithi that he rendered shUlini. The interesting part of the concert was the RTP in madHuvanti with the pallavi "Kuzhal inidhu yaazh inidhu". Was extremely interesting!He also gave us a glimpse into the rAga pRiyaDarsHini. The performance was, I would say, profound.

The next concert was Shri.U.Srinivas @ Vani Mahal. Well, the surprise element for me was the Swarajathi that was rendered, which is composed by SyAmA sHastri that goes like "kAmAkshi ambA anuDinamu mara vakane". Apart from that, there was moHana kalyAni, naLinakAnthi, kApi nArayani and tarangiNi, etc., Overall, it was a good performance.

Next in the list was Ranjani and Gayathri @ The Music Academy. They started off with a varNam in tOdi. Followed by Sri Saraswathi in Arabhi. tiruvadi sharaNam in khAmbOji was the main piece. I wasn't completely impressed by the choice of the krithis and the Alapana.

On the same day, I caught Shri.T.N.Seshagopalan @ Mylapore Fine Arts. I would say this was easily one of the best concerts that I've attended in this season. He started with sAverI "Sri rAjagOpala". Followed by marivERE in shanmukhapriyA. There was a thiruppAvai in shankarAbharaNam "puLum silambina kAaN". He also rendered a krithi in tOdi - dAchukOvalEna in misra jampa! Trust me...he started singing an RTP at 9.00 PM! And it was mind blowing. It was in Poorvikalyani, Bhagesri and Sri! The Pallavi being "vEenA gAna daSa gamadakriye" from meenakshI mE muDam. He aslo rendered revathI and a thillana in the end. It was an eclectic concert, I would say!

Also attended Shri.T.N.Krishan Sir's concert @ MFA. He strung together suruTi, behAg, kharaharapriyA, sindhubHairavi, shanmukhapriyA, etc., in his concerts. He was accompanied by Smt. Viji Krishan and Shri.Sriram Kirshnan. The whole concert was mellifluous.

The only disappointing thing was, I couldn't get to hear Shri. T.N.Sankaranarayanan's kutcheir this year. Hoping to catch one soon!

Yamakasi

Had an opportunity to watch this movie Yamakasi-Les samouraïs des temps modernes, meaning, Yamakasi, the samurai(s) of the modern times. Thanks to the little bit of French that I've been learning so far.
The plot of this movie is pretty simple, am not elaborating it here, since I am not sure about the nuances to be kept in mind while writing a review for a movie. So who do you think are these Yamakasi? They are basically French practitioners who practise acrobatics. So how different is this from Parkour or Free running? The aim of Yamakasi is to reach point B from point A aesthetically providing complete freedom of movement. What Parkour does is, it focuses on how efficiently you can reach point B from point A. (Pretty much similar to a TSP!).

About the word origin, it sounded very Japanese, apparently it's a word from Lingala meaning strong spirit,strong energy.

Feel drained out? I would definitely suggest this movie! The music + the tactics + good dialogues (I watched it in French!)make this a wonderful movie to watch!!!! It truly lives up to its name...HIGH ENERGY.

So isn't it time that you aesthetically plunge into this?

"Litter"ally junk!!

Been trying to write a post for quite a long time.The intention alone doesn't matter. Realised how lousy I've become...all this, while trying to fill up my appraisal(duh!!). Was unable to frame a single convincingly obfuscated statement that elaborates my deeds in length! Huh...sounds awful isn't it? (Both!)

Wondering what would've caused this? Lack of reading? Too much talking? Very little thinking? Laziness?

The next terrifying this that's been happening to me is, unable to get into a book....trust me, that's the worst feeling one can ever have :(. And when it comes to writing, get terrible blocks.........when I start framing things that I want to write, even before I can put them down.

This post is purely to overcome the horrible boulders that I have placed (consciously?!) in the stream of my thoughts which in turn has thwarted my words to permeate through and fall into the blue to form an interesting piece of "litter"ature!

Feel like lashing out your comments?? Oh, please do.....

P.S: This post is mainly to instill in myself the feeling that I CAN still write!

Trying to breathe some life into my blog!! :)

This sunday was truly blissful.Spent most of the time reading about one of the greatest composers of Carnatic Music - Muthuswamy Dikshitar.

To talk about the gift he'd left the music sorority (well,what do you expect out of a feminist! :) )
Got a wonderful opportunity to listen to lots of krithis composed in rare ragas. Dikshitarophiles should definitely visit this.Was listening to one of the nIlOtpalAmbA krithi. Well,let me explain - Dikshitar composed lots of krithis termed by the sorority as 'group-krithis', which will contain krithis in the name of a particular deity,mostly, or in general, a particular theme. One such set, is the nIlOtpalAmbA.

The one that I listened to was in nArirItigOwla. All these krithis describe the neelotpalamba, the goddess of blue lotus.Since the raagams in which these krithis end with 'gOwla', they are also called gOwlAnta rAga krithis.These krithis are different from the navAvarnam by the fact that these do not have a dhyAna krithi and a mangala krithi.

Hoping to post more on various compositions and a more detailed one! since breathing too much life onto my blog might suffocate it!! :)

The concept of 'riff' adds beauty to the song! Well, a riff - is a short, repeated, memorable musical phrase, often pitched low on the guitar, which focuses much of the energy and excitement of a rock song.

This song is about a man who travels back in time to warn the people about the danger.But he turns into iron. And hence, Iron Man. Now, nobody wants him. This instills in him the thought of acting against his vow.Killing! This cannot be called as deviation from his prophecy, but,its destruction.Destroying the mankind.

The second set of kutcheris ( music concerts) that I attended were that of Sriram Gangadharan and Aruna Sayeeram at the Music Academy.

Sriram Gangadharan's kutcheri started off with sree gaNapathi nee in sOwrAshtram.The second one was rAmanAtham bhajeham in poorvikalyAni,and Adi tAlam 2-kalai.Then came nilAmbari like a gentle breeze. The krithi was brovavamma in Misra chApu.This was followed by a storm!bHairavi!bAlagOpalA. Was rendered very beautifully.Next in the platter was a Raagam-Taanam-Pallavi(RTP) in nAttakurinji in misra gathi misra chapu.The pallavi that was handled was "rAma shrirAma pattabHirAma dasharathabAla" .This was followed by a rAgamAlika containing kedAragoulai,dhanyAsi,kalyAni,AndolikA and AnandabHairavi.His diction was really the thing to be noted.He was accompanied by B.Sivaraman on the Mridangam,Charumathi Raguraman on the Violin and Anirudh Athreya on the Kanjira.

Aruna Sayeeram's started off with sAveri varnam,adi tAlam.The accompaniments -S.Karthik on the Ghatam,H.N.Bhaskar on the violin and J.Vaidyanathan on the Mridangam.The next was a krithi is vAgadEshwari,paramAtmulu velige.The next one was sudhA mayi in amruthavarshini. It was mind blowing!!The next one was in Tamil. Vandeenam uzhalum solai in tOdi.Then came the classic O rangasAyee in khAmbOji.Then there was this traditional rendition, kAna vendAmo in AbhOgi.The Raagam-Taanam-Pallavi was in madhyamAvati.It was very enjoyable.The pallavi being bhAgyada lakshmi bAramma nammammA nee sow.It was in fact a rAgamAlikA describing ashtalakshmis.It contained kalyAni ( describing Adilakshmi ),kurinji ( describing dhAnyalakshmi ),atAna ( describing dhairyalakshmi ),mOhanam ( describing gajalakshmi ),sahAnA ( describing santhAnalakshmi ),ranjani ( describing vijayalakshmi ),bHairavi ( describing aishwaryalakshmi )and lalitha ( describing dhanalakshmi ).This was followed by an abhang in hindOlam,sAvale sundara. The final piece was a themmAngu. Audiences' choice. It was in senjurutti, mAdu meykkum kaNNe.On the whole it was a brilliant concert!

December Season - Part-I

I know its January :), but I can't stop myself from writing about the 'December Season' which is literally celebrated as a festival in the city of Madras.
Well, this season, I managed to attend 5 kutcheris, which is actually a very poor count :(. Yeah, but I had my own reasons for not attending them.

The first one that I attended was T.N.S.Krishna. A wonderful performance!He started off with a sAveri Varnam.Followed by begadA.The tOdi rendition was the highlight.The kanakku was amazing!TNS' lessons!!Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi(RTP) was in shanmughapriyA.With a simple pallavi paravasam miga Agude kanna unai ninaindhu. It was concluded on an Oothukkadu's composition vandhu ketpAr,a rAgamAlikA containing hindOlam,atAnA and bilahari.

The second one was P.Unnikrishnans'.Started with a tOdi varnam.Followed by shiva lOga nAdanai in mAyamAlavagOwla.Varali was good.There was a Swati Tirunal's composition,sAnandam kamalAmanOhari in kamalAmanOhari. It also included swarams in hamsadwani,bhOpAlam and tarangini.The next was Evari mAta in Kambhoji.Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi was in Kharaharapriya.(One of my personal favorites).The pallavi was arapriye lalithe thvAm tharunendu sekarah. The last one was a thillana in hamsAnandi.

Slightly got hyper and started thinking about 'Nonsense', which I feel is a beautiful thing! It takes a lot to be nonsensical! :).I swear!.My notion is - it's easy to call/term somebody a nonsense,and its easy to make sense, but it is difficult to make No Sense!! Oh, it's definitely a TALENT.

Chanced upon a few nice quotes on nonsense. That gave me a sense of relief. :)

“It is completely unimportant. That is why it is so interesting!”
“Nonsense is so good only because common sense is so limited”
“A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men”
“Nonsense is an assertion of man's spiritual freedom in spite of all the oppressions of circumstance”

I chanced upon lots of interesting stuffs on nonsense.This was a beautiful example - "Colorless green ideas sleep furiously" , well, the words considered individually make sense, and even the sentence is grammatically correct, but its utter nonsense. Don't forget to visit the results of the translation competition of the statement.
There's one more - Two hands clap and there is a sound; what is the sound of one hand? This statement is called a koan.Koan does not mean nonsense in its truest sense, but more like beyond the comprehending abilities of a mortal.

My movie for the day was - Spring ,Summer,Fall,Winter and Spring - a Korean movie.

A very beautifully made movie!

The movie starts by showing a gate.Well, its not exactly a gate but its more of a main door to a house.The door opens to reveal a house in the middle of an undisturbed lake.The architecture of the house is highly simple and it is entirely made of wood.A Buddhist Monk and a kid live there.
Their day starts with worshipping a statue of Buddha.The statue of Buddha is in the center of the house and on either side of it is a room with no walls. They just have doors.This reveals the 'Self Control' part of a human.This might sound absurd here, but the movie should be defintely seen to understand the hidden philosophy in each frame.

The movie goes onto show us how a man evolves across the seasons. It talks about CHANGE in the most beautiful manner.Well, we have all read about evolution, that's more like giving a physical view to it. But this movie talks about the mind and its orientation.
The desires,the seeking,the yearning,the decisions,the impulse,the thoughts,the anger,the learnings - each one of them is an epic. Ki-duk Kim has done a brilliant job by capturing all of these.

The beauty of the movie is, none of the character have names! And about the rating - I would call it a 'Must Watch'.

Currently reading The Picutre of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, where I came across the description of Lord Henry's house. It goes like this -

Opened OED to find out what the word 'frieze' meant. And I understood!(?) the synonym in its entirety.

A word is said to be a backronym if it started as an acronym and later got an expanded version! Well,an example would make it more clear -SOS was a backronym. But it later came to be known as 'Save Our Souls' / 'Save Our Ship'.

The word Backronym is a Portmanteau!The word Portmanteau was coined by Lewis Caroll. To define a portmanteau, it is a word that is formed by combining the sounds and the meanings of different words. Ha, would you believe if were to tell you that TomKat actually stood for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes? (Spare me geeks!Please.....)

If a word is either an acronym/a backronym and also has a meaning related to the words it is made up of,is called an Apronym. Apronym is a portmanteau of Appropriate Acronym! A famous example is - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, for LSD.Well, this falls under the acronym category.The one in the backronym category is - INFINITY, wherein it stands for Increment Numbers Forever -It's Nuts, I tell You!

Blank Noise Project

My topic is no different from Deepti's."Is there any girl who lives who has not been harassed on the roads? " Yes....show me one female.... It is a very difficult life.Life is NOT easy for a woman to lead a day without getting psyched out by such incidents.

I have had many bitter experiences..... never have I reached my bus-stop in the morning without hearing "the so called appreciations" from the vetti (highly) people on the road.The worst is the PTC bus travel.My travelling in the bus made me realise as to why God has given us elbows. And people out here wanna know y we women prefer weearing HIGH HEELS or stilletoes??? Well....to jus STAMP them. But that doesn't deter such heads from teasing.The worst thing is THE WOMEN are a target for dignified too. It is extremely painful to undergo such harassment.
Is anyone spared at all? Right from a school going kid to an old woman.... none of them are spared. That's beacause.. she is a WOMAN.Where is the EMPOWERMENT everybody is talking about??
Why should we suffer so much? Is it a curse to be born as a woman? Even a person who had committed a sin will just suffer for a period of time. NOT THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE.

Well, this isn't any kind of an analysis as to what kind of a person you are.But rather it is, what kind of FOOD you eat rather or the one that you are passionate about.

Was wanting to blog about this for a very long time.It is about the character that Vikram played in his movie called Anniyan. I din't realise that this character had a wiiiddeee...... and a hhhuuuuuugggeeeee reach.

Once this movie was out, I could see people trying to imitate his sshhhhtyle! Right from the hair color,the hair style, the mod outfits... People imagined themselves to be REMO! And not to forget his famous,rather the punch style - act of 'throwing a kiss'. God... din't think that the character could have such an appeal.

Came across many other situations where the guys called themseleves REMO.They'd even put pics of REMO on their Orkut album (which was just one instance).I was extremely surprised when a colleague of mine added the name REMO to his name (not that he re-christened himself) but he was so crazy about that character,that his official profile had the name REMO followed by his name.

The best part was, I had gone on a trip to an amusemet park. And we were going on this ride called the cable car.
Hey!!!!!It is a beautiful ride!! (but I got bored cos' it was a bit slow).Well I know for a fact that I ain't travelling on the land.Still.....

The car is pitched at a height of 'I don know how many feet' high from the ground.Me and a friend of mine were just observing the design and the shape of the car. When I came across this... Saw the word REMO written there on the glass.

Two days back,I just switched on my comp( to KEEP UP my WORD!!):), but there was no display.Thought it might be a cable fault, so changed the cord. And wow! that worked.But it said 'Disk Read Error Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

Cross verified it by trying to boot from a CD. Alas........my HARD DISK..... has gone for a toss :(

I am currently reading this book called "THE WORLD IS FLAT",by Thomas.L.Friedman.It is a book which talks about GLOBALISATION.

There was this aspect,that struck me.The author has a suggestion for all the Developing countries in this world.He says-Like how we have something called Alcoholic Anonymous(A.C),we should be having something called -Developing Countries Anonymous(D.A.C).He says,each country should be BRUTALLY HONEST while introspecting.(Very beautiful!!)

The book is presented really well, but all I could think about was,the parts about INDIA.He analyses the state of many of the Developing countries,in which he talks about India. He says -

"On the Chinese streest,there's no rule of law,but the roads are well paved;there are no potholes,and the streetlights all work.On the Indian streets,by contrast,no one ever reapirs the streetlights,the roads are full of ruts,but the police are sticklers for the rules.You need license to open a lemonade stand on the Indian streets.Luckily the local cops can be bribed."

It's extremely saddening to know,this BITTER truth.

Lux recently celebrated 75 years of their brand.They wanted to make it special so they roped in Sharukh Khan to do a commercial for them.Well,he is the second male model for Lux.Paul Newman being the first one!

The recent most commercial with SRK,done by J Walter Thompson,in which Khan talks about "beauty secrets" sitting in a bath-tub with petals.I can understand that HLL wanted to do something really different.But why a male model?? Is it some kind of a MS thing???....!!!! The best part is,he doesn't use the soap in the ad.Which makes the ad very different???!!!!???

About the history,the word Lux was derived from 'LUXURY'.There had been a number of stars who have modeled for Lux.The first Indian model was Leela Chitnis.And then comes the host of stars like Hema Malini,Sridevi,Juhi Chawla,Kareena and....... so on.

Founded in 1864,"this" started as a paper industry near "this" river in Finland. A Finnish engineer,Fredrik Idestam.In his initial years, he wasn't well-versed in this,so he acquired the technology from Germans.He learnt it all by convincing the workers of the manufacturing plant to show him the details.

Hooooraaay!!Atlaast played a game of Pool today.Found the game really interesting,and it involved lots of concentration.And to top it all,it was FUN.

Pool Table

Basically games like Pool,Snooker, all these belong to the Billiards Family.And the game of Pool,was initially played as as off-track game,in the race courses.This is because lots of money was "pooled" in.Hence the name Pool.

The stick with which the game is played is called the cue stick.About the balls,there is one white ball called the cue ball,and the rest are the object balls.In the object balls,there are two sets,solid colored and striped ones.The angle at which the cue stick is held and the player's posture counts a lot.Believe me! This is what I learnt.Thanks to Buffy-buffy,Dipsy and Spidey!

I watched this movie,How to steal a million yesterday! Celebrating my weekend.And I am sure I chose the best way to celebrate.Lovely movie.

This movie is directed by William Wyler,the guy who directed Roman Holiday.This movie was supposed to be a 'sequel-types' to Roman Holiday.And Gregory Peck was to play the lead.

Peter'O Toole & Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn and Peter'O Toole have done a fantastic job.This movie's highlight is,it has very simple dialogues but believe me,beautiful ones.The chemistry between them is really really cute.Both of them STEAL the show.

This article is not about the musical band but a Hindu Sage called Narada.More popularly known as Kalahapriya, Kalaham meaning fight.He loves starting fights between people.Hence the phrase "naradar velai"!

Did you know that,Narada is a very great musician???

As the legend goes,Saint Thyagaraja was blessed by Narada.And he even composed a krithi called "Narada Muni" in praise of Narada. For those who have attended atleast one Carnatic Kutcheri, you would have noticed the musicians singing raagam.Not so ardent listeners would term it as-"Tha ra na".Its nothing but a dedication to the Greatest Musician "Narada".indicating the syllables in his name.

That's why instead of singing a raagam in terms of "aa" (which of course they do) but its mostly "tha-ra-na"!

Well,my first guru from whom I learnt the game was, my Physics teacher (in school).Its really an interesting game.And requires swift reflexes.This game was originally called "Whiff-whaff", which later became "Ping-Pong" and now -Table Tennis.

This game has an interesting history.This game ,mimicks Tennis!.The game of Table Tennis,used to be played as a past-time during the dinner parties in England.There weren't any nets,instead simple objects,like the cork of a bottle were used!

But later,developed into a popular sport and even gained an entry into Olympics. Wondering why this srticle creeped into my blog all of a sudden??? Well...its a part of "my" Corporate World!

Wanted to post my next entry after reading this book "A Suitable Boy"!

A very beautiful book,set in the post-independence era.This 1349 page saga,this number is suggestive enough to indicate that,it's one of the longest novels in English! And I'm proud that -I HAVE READ IT! :)

The Cover

The author of this novel,Vikram Seth,has given vivid images of all the places that has appeared in this novel.This novel clearly displays Seth's knowledge about India. All the characters in this novel are soooo lively.The portrayal is really good.Though this novel runs to around 1300 pages,there's not much of a deviation.The story just runs through all the pages of the book,unlike other books,where it'll be in chunks.

The best thing about this novel is,it was supposed to be a short story!

I guess that was too long a hiatus from the world of blogging.Guess who's back, back again!! is the song that strikes me at this juncture.

I recently read a book called Man and Superman ,subtitled A comedy and Philosophy,by G.B.Shaw.Was a wonderful book,I thoroughly enjoyed it.Well,the word Superman of the title,is derived from the writings of Freidrich Neitzsche.

The other book I read,rather re-read was, Surely You're Joking Mr.Feynman!!!An awesome book and I would classify it under the must-read category.The whole book was in simple terms,but the underlying thoughts were...really Fantastic! Wat a physicist- Feynman is! Especially the chapters about cracking the safes,called "Safecracker meets Safecracker" was too good. My favourite verse is, about the problem on introspection:

I wonder why.I wonder why. I wonder why I wonder. I wonder why I wonder why. I wonder why I wonder!

Well....tomorrow we are celebrating the 58th year of Independence!!!

Happy Independence Day!!

During my school days,we used to have this Independence Day celebrations.Actually,I learnt a lot about the Freedom Struggle,our Leaders and about Patriotism from the plays that were being staged.All these instilled in me a sense of belonging to this country.

One of my activities on Independence Day was to watch the movie Roja that was aired on Doordarshan.They made it a practise to air that movie on 15th of August,every year.I don't know why,but it made sense!!Especially,the song Thamizha Thamizha,wow!! it gives me goosepimples,every time I listen to it.

Was watching a Tamil movie the other day called Kapalottiya Thamizhan,it was such an inspiring movie.Shivaji had donned the role of Va.U.Chidambaranar(Kapalottiya Thamizhan) and portrayed the "struggle" for Independence!!

But the sad part is,nowadays they don't broadcast such "patriotic" movies and instead play some new flick....that din't even do well in the box office.Its that,why don't they play some of the movies or some archived material on freedom struggle??Else I feel the cliched saying will come true-

I am recently hooked to this!!Well......its the latest tamil flick,music by-ARR!!!! :) This movie called Anbe Aaruyire, has 6 tracks.

Vaali,the lyricist has done a very good job.Most importantly,one needs to strain their ears to find out whether the fact I've mentioned about the lyrics is true or not.The music overshadows the lyrics.
Still....ARR is ARR!!!

All the songs are good.One unique aspect of this movie is,all the songs are written in TAMIL !!! Definitely unique!!! Is'nt it??Of course an exception exists,in "Maramkothiye" (woodpecker!!),where Blaize comes into picture and is very much on a techno note.

The other songs are - "Mayilirage" sung by Madhushree (Sujatha Bhattacharya) and Naresh Iyer,has a hitch,regarding the pronunciation."Thigu thigu" by Sadhana Sargam and Naresh Iyer gives a rustic feeling."Thazhuvudhu" is sung by Shreya Ghosal and SPB.Wonder how SPB manages to maintain his voice!!!

ARR fans are definitely bestowed with the opportunity of enjoying the rawness of his voice in "Anbe Aaruyire"............

Yesterday was Friendship's Day!!Well...Happy Friendship's Day to everyone who's reading this!!!I was reminded of my school days(sounds like....romba varusham munnadi......soo many years back..well its 4 years back to be precise).We used to have this ritual of tying bands called the friendship band to all our friends.

The best part will happen only the day before...All of us...with our "saved up" pocket money will go to a shop....and will spend hours together on trying to choose the proper one.

In this....it'll be like,this friend of mine likes black,so this one is for her,and this yellow one is for her and so on.And we'll be interested in certain bands so we'll ask the other person to get it ......and announcements will be made..."This is for me!! I've reserved it!! :)

I know...all this.....now sounds really funny!!But...I've cherished all those moments!!And its just the natural phenomenon of what is termed as- Growing Up!!!!

And this year...it was sooo different.No friendship bands nothing.We just met up and we were "reliving" those moments....and in the end it turned out to be another typical my (former) type of Friendship's Day....cos' my neighbour, she came upto me...and held my hand,tied a friendship band and said...Happy Friendship's Day!!!

I read an article recently....and I was AGHAST.It was regarding the use of human hair in commercial food especially the ones from the bakery.It does'nt stop with the use of human hair....but also the use of feathers from duck and chicken.

It seems the dough that is prepare to make pizzas,toasts,cakes,etc., when they are baked,the corners roll.This is where the human hair comes into picture.

The human hair,is dipped in Hydrochloric Acid,which recovers L-Cysteine.And the presence of this L-Cysteine prevent the rolling and also facilatates the movement of the dough through various bakery equipments.Does'nt the whole thing sound disgusting???

I lost the appetite for such stuffs the moment I read this.

My friends left to the U.S yesterday.I mean..........till then it was like....ok fine,they are leaving.But those last few minutes that I spent with them was really memorable.

It's like..........I've never felt this way before.It was very different.We've been togther for the past ten years.The amount of fun we had....can't be imagined.The conversations we've had,ranging from pin to porns!!!I know.........I can still keep in touch,thanks to technology, but its not going to be the same anymore.

Especially,the last few moments we guys spent together......we were just blank.We din't know what to talk.But one thing was for sure....... we'll miss each other like crazy.

Sad and happy for 'em!!

Today morning I get up with the "hard" fact in my mind,that they are gone.But I jus kept saying to myself..........."Everything happens for good"!!!

I stepped into T.Nagar.......I guess now everyone would agree on how apt my title was.Whew...I wonder from where people have the cash even at the end of the month.They seem to invest a lot on clothes.when I was walking down the road,I was thinking,probably like...if u climb the whole Great Wall of China,you will be awarded with a certificate,which serves as a proof that you have indeed climbed it fully.

I guess the authorities could have awarded me a certificate for manoeuvring the road succesfully!!!Truly........I deserved it!!

12 Angry Men

I watched a movie called "12 Angry Men".What a movie!!!Awesome Movie.The story line was very simple.The movie was directed really well and every frame of it,made sense and was very logical.A Henry Fonda starrer.

The best part of the movie is,its shot in a single room.Throughout the course of the movie,it can't be realised.But in the end,when all the 12 men leave the room, the final glimpse of Fonda will suggest that the "whole thing" happened inside a room.

And U might wonder that there's no mention about the 11 men of the movie.As one of the members of the jury says, I don't remember the other people who acted in the movie", for which Fonda replies where

"I'm sure you were'nt under any emotional stress"

..........for which my reply is also 'YES'!

For the past few days...open any paper or any magazine.....its all about Potter.And today is "THE" day.But the most saddest part is.......the book is in my sister's hand and its as if I'm playing a game of Quidditch,the book being the snitch. I'm unable to catch it.Even a Nimbus 2000 would'nt be of any help to me.

The only way out is ,to wait for my sister to finish it.So I decided to turn my attention (very difficult though) to MUSIC!!!

I sat and watched the videos of the recently held G8 concert.Liked the tagline -

MAKE POVERTY HISTORY

Was listening to Pink Floyd!! And seriously...wished "I was there".I miss Syd tooo.My all time favourite number is Comfortably Numb.

Even then couldn take Potter out of my mind.Remembered that I had my music class.And could'nt believe the fact that I was romancing Kambhoji for an hour.Then it was Nattakurinji's turn.A Blissful Feeling!!!!!!

Hope I catch it too!!!!

Its said to be a prized possession in every Woman's fragrance wardrobe.Infact,I myself am a parfum fanatic.I feel,Parfums define a person.It represents their personality.My collection includes parfums from Christian Dior,Gap and Burberry.There are always parfums which are said to be reserved for occassions.And there 's also a proper sequence that is to be followed while wearing a parfum.It should be worn in the pulse points to enhance the feel of it.

Well......this is my Prized Possession!!

Currently,its a billion dollar industry.In fact there was a recent article that I came across.In China,due to the overgrowing population,people who travel by trains,started complaining to the government regarding the problem of overcrowding.The solution which the Government is expected to offer is,increase in the number of rails,but in fact that din't happen. Instead, the Government asked the people to clean themselves atleast twice a day....in order to combat body odour!!!!!!!

Well...this is one of the most popular krithis in the world of Carnatic Music.This krithi is sung in Raagam Kharaharapriya set to Adhi Taala.This Thyagaraja Krithi is identified as the benchmark by the Rasikas....to find out whether a musician is really capable of rendering Kutcheris.

Tracing back to the history about this raagam,it derives its name from a Raakshasa called 'HARAN' in Ramayana,meaning "slayer of Haraa".Hence it is called Kharaharapriya.Its the 22nd Mela Kartha Raagam.

Another highlight about this raagam is...Among the TRINITY,Saint Thyagaraaja alone had composed Krithis in Kharaharapriya.This krithi is so beautifully crafted and set to an apt raagam.

Chakkani means beautiful and Raaja means royal.The Pallavi of this Krithi says...O mind( Ooo Manasaa),Why do you have to think about the narrowest paths when you have the royal path to attain salvation.

And anybody who talks about this krithi,the Veteran who comes to their mind is Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer,popularly known as Semmangudi Mama.

In fact he popularised the krithi and the kalapna swaras he renders are unimaginable.

Another highlight of this Krithis is,in olden days when there was this Poonu Parka Varadhu (Guy,seeking the Girls's hand,will visit her place with his family),the Girl is asked for her wish and which she expresses it through this song.When the Girl sings the first line of the Charanam..... "Kantiki Sunadara"(O, the one, who is pleasing to my eyes), 3 times, means she likes the guy.

My Journey!!!

Well I should have started this a long time back.But as usual......there's this thing called laziness that creeps in too often!I was still pondering over about what to write while walking down the road...when i realised that I should be starting with My Journey to my Bus Stop!!Sounds a bit weird....but truly..it is a Journey.

Well to start with...I ve been walking to my college bus stop,as it is called,for the past 4 years.It takes around 8 minutes from my place to reach the stop.And take that Fateful bus to reach the Fateful Place called College.Those 8 minutes....oh...can be really boring if there's no company.

In my first year....I had my friend....and both of us use to walk and gossip soooo much such that we wont even realise that we've reached.We've had terrible times too in the Bus stop.My bus stop seriously has Mad people.There was this guy.....who used to pop up from nowhere and stop people and ask them...what's the time?? Irrespective of the replies he got....he used to beat them with a stick or shoo them away!!And a mention about the drunkards is necessary....He scared us one day....by having a bottle of wine in his hand and drinking it standing right in front of us ......that tooo.....early in the morning.Me and my friend,at the site of this act just dropped our Civil Engineering books....and just hid ourselves.

And yeah....bus stop is the place where we'll realise that we had to finish our records or assignments!!!Or bring a dumb Blazer.....on wearing it..will make us look professional it seems...Was our College's notion.And look at our professional attitude...we'll be too busy thinking about borrowing!!!!

All this fun...well....won't say stopped....rather....the pace slowed down when my friend left to stay in the hostel....I had a tough time.There was practically no company at all.Believe me........I've even dragged my dad to the bus stop because I used to get bored.Thought that was too much.So walked all alone to the bus stop....It would look like I have a journey of some 1000 miles ahead.I even started counting the number of shops.At one point of time....started to play with the numbers on the number plate...trying to multiply 2 four digit numbers....( I know) before the vehicle disappeared in the traffic.

Once I reach my stop, I had few of my seniors and we had a good time......which of course,lasted only for a few minutes cos by then the bus would come.And the next year........even they graduated...Again I felt like I was left in lurch.Even wished that my wolud end soon.

At the site of my bus....... the song by The Doors,used to keep ringing in my ears.... "The blue bus....is calling us!!!"

But now...........not anymore!

This is my first attempt to blog.....but i promise....its an EARNEST one!!! And I'm still wondering where to start.
